Steps to clean your front-load washer
Cleaning your front-load washer is easy. All it takes is five simple steps and your washing machine will be sparkling clean in no time.
When cleaning your front-load washing machine, you can either use a bleach-based cleaning solution or make a natural solution using white vinegar and lemon juice.
- To make a bleach-based cleaning solution, mix two cups of warm water with ½ cup of bleach and ¼ cup of lemon juice.
- To make a natural cleaning solution, mix two cups of warm water with ½ cup of white vinegar and ¼ cup of lemon juice.
- Once you’ve made your cleaning solution, pour it into a spray bottle.
Once you have your cleaning solution in hand, follow these steps to clean your LG front-load washer:
- Use safety equipment: Start by putting on a pair of safety gloves and a mask. This prevents you from breathing in and/or touching any chemicals or harmful bacteria. Make sure that your laundry room is well-ventilated and you have no risk of the solution getting into your eyes.
- Clean the door gasket. To clean the door gasket, spray the gasket surface and then use a damp cloth to give it a good clean. If you’re struggling to get into the hard-to-reach parts of the gasket, use a small soft brush. Once clean, use a dry cloth to remove any dampness from the gasket.
- Clean the exterior. Next, clean the outside of your washer by spraying and wiping all surfaces. You may need to pull the appliance out from the wall to access the back of it.
- Put it on a wash cycle. Fill the laundry detergent compartment with your cleaning solution. Once full, put your LG front-load washer onto a dedicated wash cycle. If your washer doesn’t have a dedicated wash cycle, put it on the heavy-duty wash cycle with the water temperature set to high.
- Dry your washer. When the wash cycle ends, open your washer door and dry the drum and around the door with a clean cloth. You can then leave the washer door open for a couple of hours to let the drum and gasket completely dry. Your LG front-load washer should now be nice and clean.
Why you should clean your LG front-load washer regularly
Several good reasons can be given for why you should clean your front-load washer regularly, including the following:
Stop mold from building up
Dirty washing machines can become a magnet for mold, which occurs when bacteria build up in your LG front-loading washing machine. If your washer gets mold in it, your clothes will come out dirty. The best way to prevent this from happening is to clean your LG washer regularly—especially the door gasket.
Prevent your laundry from smelling bad
If your front-load washer gets mold and other grease and grime in it, your laundry will come out emitting bad odors. The best way to prevent this is to ensure you give your front-load washer a regular cleaning. As we’ve outlined above, this is easy to do.
Save energy costs
If your front-load washing machine is dirty, you’ll have to wash your laundry more often and on longer wash cycles. Over time, this increases your energy bill. Thankfully, you can stop this from happening by giving your appliance a regular clean.
Keep you and family healthy
If your laundry comes out dirty and covered in bacteria, this can cause health problems for you and your family. To stop this happening, make sure you wash your appliance using a strong disinfectant.
Make your washer last longer
Keeping your LG front-load washing machine clean will increase its longevity. This means you won’t have to purchase new appliances as often, which will save you a significant amount of money in the long run.
